Legend has it that Kashmir was created by the sage Kashypa, he removed the water from a near by river and thus the valley
was born. Kashmir literally means ka(water)shimeera(to dessicate), it is the northern most State of India, it is mainly referred
to as the Kashmir valley nestled in the Himalayas. It uniqueness lies in the fact that it consists of places that are considered
holy by Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims. Kashmir can be divided into four main parts: LEH and Kargil, Himalayas, Pir Panjal, and Indus River
The city of Srinagar is the capital of Jammu and Kashmir ,it is located on the banks of river Jhelum. Kashmir valley is the only place in India that has a Muslim majority(95 %), it also has Hindus(4%), rest are Sikhs and Buddhists
Politically Kashmir is divided into three parts: Azad Kashmir controlled by Pakistan, India controlled Jammu and Kashmir, and China controlled Xinjiang province.
This is just a very brief background on Kashmir, to know Kashmir one has to know not just how it exists but why it exists
the way it does. In this web essay i will try and do my best to give a glimpse into KASHMIR, i have various links that one
can navigate to experience the different dimensions of this place.
